"THE LIGHT OF JESUS CHRIST Our congregation has been active on "Plow Hill" for over 225 years. Records show the first pastor was called to minister to the residents of Plowville and surrounding area in 1770. This congregation existed as early as 1767, the year when the family of William Penn deeded tract of land "for a place of worship for a Lutheran congregation." In the early days the church was known as "The Forest Church" and later as "Plow Church". The cornerstone of the present building was laid in 1888, and is the third structure to house the congregation. For many years Robeson Church was a "Union Church" providing ministry for both the Lutheran and Reformed denominations. This union was dissolved in 1956. The first full-time pastor was called in 1959. A short time later a parsonage was built at the church. Improvements continued, including the addition of a large educational building completed in 1977. A pavilion and a ball field were soon followed. In the past few years our ministry has expanded rapidly, both with in the congregation and in the community. Basic renovations within the sanctuary, including refurbished stained glass windows, a new organ, additional parking and painting of the property, maintained our facilities to continue to serve the congregation and community. The addition of a carillon system in the bell tower enlivens the hills with the sound of music. Our Christian ministry has been strengthened with the addition of a full-time Director of Christian Education and a part-time Volunteer Coordinator. Our spiritual and service dimensions were widened with the addition of healing ministry services, expanding social ministry activities and qualified pastoral counseling services. The ministry to our community now includes a preschool, a summer playground program in cooperation with the township, a playground, outdoor lights on the ball field, a scouting program for both girls and boys, and an Alcoholic Anonymous meeting place. A new addition in 1998 included a multi-purpose building and new offices will greatly expand our ministry for the congregation and community. Robeson Lutheran Church has been blessed with dedicated leaders. Under their spiritual guidance and leadership much has been, and is, offered to the community. The worship services are conducted in the Lutheran tradition: preaching the Gospel, administering the Sacraments, and proclaiming Salvation through Jesus Christ. |
